Celebrating its 26th year, the Nashville Farmers' Market is hosting their annual Turnip Green Festival on Saturday, November 2. From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Generously sponsored by BJ's Wholesale Club, this free fall festival will celebrate all things turnip greens, including live music from the Nashville All Stars Band, Smiley’s famous cast iron cauldron of braised greens with smoked BBQ, catfish, cornbread and beans, Thanksgiving-themed vendor specials, live cooking demonstrations with Nossi College of Art & Design’s culinary team, a turnip green cook off, hands on science demonstrations with Adventure Science Center, including dry ice marshmallows, a kids' zone, food trucks, fall produce and more! The event is free, and parking is also free!

Turnip green cook off
Bring your best turnip green dish for a chance to win first, second or third place at the Nashville Farmers’ Market! How to enter:
1. Enter by reaching out to Yolanda Manning at 615-210-6919 or yolanda.manning@nashville.gov no later than Wednesday, October 30.
2. Bring your dish to the market on Saturday, November 2 between 10:30 - 11 a.m., outside in between the two farm sheds in front of the main stage. Please plan for heavier traffic and limited parking.
3. The cook off begins at noon and winners will be announced from the main stage! First place will win $100 cash and prizes will be awarded for second and third place. Good luck!
NASHVILLE FARMERS’ MARKET’S Turnip green RECIPE
Ingredients
Colander of fresh turnip greens, washed and stems removed
2 lbs of smoked turkey (tails, wings, drumsticks, etc.)
1 tsp granulated garlic
1 tsp granulated garlic salt
1 tsp granulated onion
1 tablespoon minced onion
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp hot sauce (your favorite)
64 oz chicken broth
Water as needed
Instructions
Roll turnip green leaves into a cylinder shape slice into small pieces, set aside.
Place all ingredients except turnip greens in a large stock pot. Add water to cover smoked turkey if needed. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer on low heat for one hour.
Remove any turkey bones and gristle from the pot.
With cooked liquid and turkey still in the pot, add prepared turnip greens a little at a time to the pot and cook on low for about 30 minutes or until all greens are cooked.
Serve and enjoy.
